I grew up on the south side of Dublin and had a really happy childhood. School out, I did a secretarial course, and launched myself into the work of business. And there were lots of jobs, a stint in the European Commission in Brussels, and then the setting up of Just Curtains, our interior design company which I run with my sister, Mary Lucherini.
Always interested in theatre, my granduncle Professor Liam OBriain, one of the founders of An Taibhdhearc Theatre in Galway, and also a writer, was an influence.
In 2005 I established McGuinness Books with my husband Arthur McGuinness and we published my first book THE MARRIED WOMAN. To make my scribbling worthwhile we decided to donate all the proceeds to LAURALYNN CHILDREN'S HOSPICE, LEOPARDSTOWN, DUBLIN 18. To date we have published ten books - THE MARRIED WOMAN, THE LIBERATED WOMAN, ODDS ON LOVE, WHO IS FAYE? THE RED CARPET, FAIRFIELDS, THE PACT, 1916, THE PASSIONATE WOMAN, and the latest novel LOVE OF HER LIFE. For the year 2016 we have published a book written by my granduncle, Liam O'Briain, in 1951, which deals with his experiences in the College of Surgeons during the Easter Rising in 1916. We have reprinted his book which was written in Irish with an English translation in his memory. So far, we have donated over €400,000.00 between sales and donations to the LauraLynn.
We are very happy to be associated with this most deserving charity which was established by Jane and Brendan McKenna who tragically lost their only two daughters, Laura and Lynn. It was their dream to build a Children's Hospice in memory of their girls and at last that dream has been realised and LauraLynn House has opened.
There were many people associated with the publication of these books, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends in the Wednesday Group. My editor, Muriel Bolger, my proofreader Vivien Hughes, who volunteer their most valuable services to help the LauraLynn. And also Yvonne and Martin of Martone Design and Print, Lucan, Co. Dublin, who do all the typesetting of the books free of charge. Irish Computers, Nenagh, Co.Tipperary who service our website free of charge and also Cyclone Couriers, who have helped us from Day I. Thanks are due too to Southside Storage who help with storage. We are truly grateful to all of you who are so generous. Also all family, friends, and business colleagues who help by buying books and donating money to the fund. /P>
Needless to say, none of this could possibly have been achieved without the love and support of my darling husband, Arthur.
